Hi, and welcome! I’m Heather, a Certified Sex Therapist, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Arkansas and Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) in Ontario, Canada.

I’m so glad you’re here.

Starting therapy or finding a new therapist can feel really overwhelming or uncomfortable, but I promise it won’t always be that way. My goal is to make therapy feel like a safe, supportive, accepting , comfortable space and experience. I’ve gone through a few of my own therapists over the years, and I tend to work in the ways that always felt best for me as a client - feeling heard, important, understood, and challenged appropriately.

I am not a rigid, blank-faced therapist (I use humor and sarcasm to get points across, cannot hide my facial expressions, and will probably cuss). I am a comforting and accepting therapist (you will probably hear me say “that makes sense” or “that is so normal” often). And I am invested in your growth (so yes, I will challenge you to recognize your strengths and to show yourself compassion and empathy as well as helping you be accountable for your role/piece).

I work from an attachment perspective, which basically means that I look at your experiences, feelings, thoughts, and behaviors from more than one angle and in relation to others around you, including your childhood, peer relationships, adult experiences, and self-talk to help me understand your world view. From there, we will work together to identify and challenge inaccurate or unhelpful ways of thinking and behaving, and make sense of your feelings in a non-judgmental way. Ideally, this leaves you with a better and kinder understanding of yourself and your experiences, along with tools to deal with challenging feelings or experiences in the future.

TRAINING

I have specialized training in sex therapy and am a recognized as a Certified Sex Therapist through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (ASSECT).

I have completed training specific to couples therapy, including Gottman Level 1 and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy.

I have completed Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training for working with trauma.
